Trail Description
This diverse hike begins by crossing the very west end of Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park. The trail then turns west along Cub Creek where you will find splendid mountain views before passing several beaver ponds. A steeper section switchbacks through beautiful aspens before the final approach to Cub Lake, partially covered with large Yellow Pondlilies. Named by Abner Sprague. Evidence of fire ecology from the 2012 Fern Lake Fire surrounds the southwest hillsides around the lake. How to Get There
Take the Bear Lake Road from US 36 for 1 mile to the Moraine Park Campground road and follow signs to the Cub Lake trailhead. Parking during the summer season is very limited. It's best to utilize the Hiker Shuttle from the Estes Park Visitor Center and the Park Shuttle Buses. |
