"The trail compels you to know yourself and to be yourself, and puts you in harmony with the universe. It makes you glad to be living. It gives you health, hope, and courage, and it extends that touch of nature which tends to make us kind."

11/18 - Lawn Lake-By 5.3 miles the snow deeper, not well packed. Snow depth was 10”-12”.
11/18 - Twin Sisters-Traction devices needed all the way up.
11/17 - The Loch area-Very hard packed. Used traction devices and poles. Very cold windchill above treeline.
11/17 - Glacier Gorge-Traction devices all the way to Black Lake. Mills and Jewel lakes are frozen solid.
11/17 - Lumpy Ridge area-Icy conditions encountered before Gem Lake.
11/16 - Alberta Falls-Alberta Falls is completely frozen over.
11/14 - Lake Helen-Conditions are a mixed bag. The footprints they followed were 12 – 20 inches deep.
11/14 - Bierstadt Lake-Very hardpacked snow and icy almost everywhere.
11/14 - Deer Mtn-It is a mixed bag of ice and clear ground in the first mile. It is pretty snowpacked the rest of the way.
11/11 - Bear Lake area-Traction devices are essential. Lakes are looking frozen, but should not be trusted. It was possibly 50% solid slick ice between Bear and Emerald lakes; the rest was very hard-packed, slick snow.
11/11 - Flattop Mtn Trail- In trees, soft packed snow with a well-defined trail. Above tree-line, winds produced alternating areas where the trail was free of snow to areas where drifts (much more prevalent) lead to post-holing to depths of 24 inches.
11/9 - Ouzel Falls- Snow was about 10-12" deep. Trail was discernable in most places.
11/5 - "Winter" is now here, with snow everywhere. It is highly recommended that all visitors have traction devices whenever they are out. While it is not yet avalanche season, it will come soon as the snowpack builds up.
